A security officer was involved in the fatal shooting of a knife-wielding shoplifting suspect at the H-E-B grocery store located in northeast Austin on Friday, Austin Police say.

In response to concerns raised by local business owners, the City of Santa Fe has committed $750,000 to fund private security guards employed by Condor Security of America to patrol parts of the city’s iconic plaza and downtown.

The City of St. Louis contracted a private security company to enhance safety around the abandoned Railway Exchange building in the downtown area back in June 2024. That company is now reporting a significant crime decrease since taking over security patrol services.

The City of Somerville in Massachusetts is currently in the process of interviewing private security companies in the wake of “dozens” of incidents, some violent in nature, involving dangerous and reckless behavior by teenagers frequenting the public library.

A mall security guard at the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance has been terminated and faces potential license revocation after a video of his reckless driving in a company car surfaced on social media. The guard, employed by Allied Universal Security, was seen performing dangerous maneuvers for a group of young spectators on the mall property.

The Park Forest Police Department of Illinois announced a program to its residents earlier this year that would provide rebates to residents and business owners who purchase and install security camera systems on their properties. According to a September 7th report by eNews Park Forest, Police Chief Brian Rzyski announced the program’s extension for another year.
